What insurance do you take?+
We accept Maryland Medicaid and Virginia Medicaid, including most managed care organization (MCO) plans, along with most major commercial insurance plans. We verify your benefits before your first visit and tell you upfront if anything will not be covered. If you are uninsured, call us and we will help you look at Medicaid eligibility and other options.
Is there an intake?+
Yes. The intake appointment usually takes about an hour. We review your history, current symptoms, medications, and goals, confirm your insurance, and decide together which program fits: PRP, therapy, medication-assisted treatment, IOP, or outpatient care. Bring a photo ID, your insurance or Medicaid card, a list of current medications, and any recent assessment or discharge paperwork. Most people are scheduled within the same week.
Will I get medication the same day?+
In many cases, yes. If a prescriber is available and the clinical assessment supports it, medication can be started the day of your intake, including medication-assisted treatment for opioid or alcohol use disorder. Some situations require records from a prior prescriber, lab work, or a follow-up visit first. We will tell you exactly what is needed before you leave.
Do I have to attend groups?+
Group participation is strongly recommended and, for programs like IOP, it is a core part of the treatment schedule. Groups are where most people build skills and accountability. If groups are difficult because of anxiety, work, school, or transportation, tell your clinician and we will adjust the plan with individual sessions or a different schedule.
What is IOP?+
Intensive Outpatient Treatment (also known as IOP) is a primary treatment program recommended in some circumstances by a clinical and medical assessment. IOP may be recommended for those who do not need medically-supervised detox. IOP can also enable people in recovery to continue their recovery therapies following successful detox, on a part-time yet intensive schedule, designed to accommodate work and family life. Topics discussed in IOP and OP groups include: Relapse Prevention Skills, Stages of Change, How to Manage Urges and Cravings, Understanding the Brain Chemistry of Addiction, Progression of the Disease of Addiction, Introduction to the Twelve Steps, Spirituality, and Post-Acute Withdrawal or PAWS.
What is OP?+
OP is a low intensity program designed to provide a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic treatment in a non-residential setting for persons suffering from substance abuse. Based on an individual assessment and treatment plan, the outpatient program offers regularly scheduled sessions up to 6 to 10 hours per week, provided in the form of individual, group, and/or family counseling.
What is DWI/DUI Education?+
Open Arms is certified by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to facilitate 12 Hour Alcohol Education Classes. DWI classes are designed for those who may have an issue with using alcohol which has led to an arrest or charge of driving under the influence and/or driving while intoxicated.
What is PRP?+
PRP stands for Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program. This service is provided to clients suffering from mental disorders such as ADHD, Depression, Anxiety Disorder, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and others. PRP works in conjunction with therapy to give clients extra support in dealing with their mental illness.
